The conductor of Chelmsford Silver Band, Alex Campbell, is stepping down after six years at the helm. The band, which performs concerts across Essex, is now looking for a new conductor to take up the baton and carry on the group’s success story.
Through Alex’s leadership, we have improved year after year, and during the COVID pandemic, one of our most challenging periods, he managed to keep the band together and maintain its membership. His commitment, dedication, and support have been incredible, and we will all miss him. We wish Alex well in the future and thank him for his service to the band. We are now looking for a new conductor to continue Alex’s great work and help move the band forward. We’re a friendly group that enjoys playing music together and are seeking someone who is enthusiastic and willing to help us develop us as musicians.
Chelmsford Silver Band was formed in 1950 by amateur musicians who shared a love of traditional brass band music. We practise every Wednesday evening at 7.30 in the Broomfield Methodist Church, and are also looking for brass and percussion players to swell our ranks to help keep the band’s future going.
Recruiting new players is a priority for our band so that we can continue to entertain the people of Chelmsford and the surrounding areas for many years to come. New members are always welcome, whether they are experienced musicians or those who haven’t played for a while.
Among the band’s many engagements are charity functions, weddings, garden fetes, and fund-raising events. We played many venues in 2022, including Bradwell, Southend, Blackmore, and concerts in the city. Our annual Christmas concert sold out last month and required extra seating due to the unprecedented demand.
The band will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2025, and a series of concerts and events are planned to mark this significant milestone.
